UK Utilities Guide

Things To Consider

1. How do I find out which Digital TV suppliers service my area?
Our postcode check allows us to research which Digital TV suppliers can service your property. Sky digital covers the whole of the UK but your ability to receive signals may be impaired if a building, tree or other object blocks the line of sight between the minidish and satellite. ITV Digital is available to 85% and the cable companies 55% of UK homes.

2. What equipment do I need?
Each supplier provides the necessary equipment to receive Digital TV on your existing TV set (although with ITV Digital you must have a TV aerial).
All digital suppliers now transmit all five terrestrial channels digitally. If you live in an area with poor reception you may need to upgrade your aerial to receive ITV Digital.

3. Which company offers the best package deal for the channels I want?
We ask you a few simple questions and you will be presented with a table of suitable suppliers and packages. This will allow you to compare channel packages, as well as additional services. Where a cable supplier is available you should consider the advantages of a combined TV and telephone package.

4. What additional services are available?
Digital TV was designed with the idea of offering more than just TV channels through your TV. Interactive services, Internet access, TV e-mail, games and video on demand are a range of the services available from the Digital TV suppliers.

5. What are my choices of channels?
Most of the popular channels are available from each supplier. Our calculator will provide you with a range of packages that detail all the channels from the suppliers available in your area. You will be asked to choose the best package profile for you. You will also be able to add channels to your package.

6. Can I change my choice of channels at a later date?
Don't worry - all suppliers provide the flexibility to add, or remove, channels on a monthly basis once you are connected. This can be done either by phone or through your remote control (depending on your provider). All contracts run for a minimum of 12 months.

7. What are the advantages of getting a combined TV and telephone deal?
Choosing a combined TV and telephone package from your cable TV company means your telephone line rental is included in your monthly package cost. The site provides the facility to compare prices with or without a telephone line included.

8. Can a satellite dish be installed at any property?

You need to consider the following:

  • Some leasehold and listed buildings have restrictions on whether you can fit a satellite dish
  • Satellite dishes need to face southeast, any trees and buildings in the way may obstruct the reception of the signal to the satellite dish
  • 30ft is the maximum height any satellite dish can be fitted in a standard installation. Non-standard installation can be arranged.
